Filling & Core Buildups

This was a case I treated at my office that (I hope) illustrates a very common situation (a tooth needing a root canal and buildup) and an explanation of why all those things are needed to save a tooth.

This tooth had a large silver filling with a crack running down the middle and decay around the edges. The tooth was sensitive to cold and to pressure.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction / Other Extraction

Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure to remove one or more wisdom teeth — the four permanent adult teeth located at the back corners of your mouth on the top and bottom.

If a wisdom tooth doesn’t have room to grow (impacted wisdom tooth), resulting in pain, infection or other dental problems, you’ll likely need to have it pulled. Wisdom tooth extraction may be done by a dentist or an oral surgeon.

Bridges / Crowns

Crowns and bridges are the most usual dental restoration work in dentistry. Dentia offers porcelain fused to metal, porcelain fused to gold and full porcelain (jacket) crowns and bridges as well. Crowns are an ideal way to rebuild teeth which have been broken, or which have been weakened by decay or a very large filling. The crown fits over the remaining part of the tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape and the contour of a natural tooth. Most crowns are made from porcelain fused to metal or gold. A precious metal base is made and then porcelain is applied in layers over it.

It cannot make a complete colour change, but it may lighten the existing shade. Brushing and flossing are everyday ways to keep your teeth bright, white and healthy. Still, if you might feel like your smile is lacking some sparkle or is more yellow than it used to be, you’re not alone.

A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth, like a false fingernail fits over a nail. Sometimes a natural-colour ‘composite’ material is used instead of porcelain. Veneers can improve the colour, shape and position of your teeth. A precise shade of porcelain can be chosen to give the right colour to improve a single discoloured tooth or to lighten your front teeth.

Brushing and flossing are the best ways to help prevent cavities, but it’s not always easy to clean every nook and cranny of your teeth – especially those back teeth you use to chew (called molars). Molars are rough, uneven and a favorite place for leftover food and cavity-causing bacteria to hide. Still, there’s another safety net to help keep those teeth clean. It’s called a sealant, and it is a thin, protective coating (made from plastic or other dental materials) that adheres to the chewing surface of your back teeth.
